A new leader in Anchorage

Image

Dave Bronson, Anchorage’s soon-to-be new mayor, has named two well-known political veterans, Larry Baker and Craig Campbell, to lead his transition. Bronson made the announcement during a press conference Monday afternoon in Anchorage. Baker is a former Anchorage municipal chief of staff, legislator, and long-time businessman, while Campbell is a former lieutenant governor and state Adjutant General, and was also CEO of Alaska Aerospace Corp. Last week, Forrest Dunbar conceded the race for mayor of Anchorage to Bronson. A vote tally released Friday showed Bronson with 45,889 votes, compared to 44,698 votes for Dunbar.

This is a longtime tradition that grows each year. We receive emails and social media messages from readers weeks in advance asking when voting begins. Last year there were more than 83,000 votes. This year readers can nominate and vote on their favorites in seven different categories: recreation and accommodation, food and drink, retail, services, people and professionals, venues and destinations, and health and wellness. Each category has numerous subcategories. There are more than two-dozen subcategories in the food and drink category alone. The nomination period is open at frontiersman.com now and continues through May 28. Voting opens on June 1 and continues through June 7. Results will be available online June 10 and the Best of the Valley special section publishes June 30.
