An additional 80 personnel have been added to the battle of a fire in the Montana Creek area. The blaze, first reported just after 3 p.m. Saturday, is located near Mile 94 of the Parks Highway. It was originally estimated at a quarter-acre, and “grew quickly,” to about 20 acres, according to Alaska Wildland Fire Information on Saturday, and was at about 172 acres on Monday. The fire was 40 percent contained Monday. “The fire quickly grew to 172 acres in size while consuming dry grass, brush and also black spruce. The large-scale response to the fire included both federal, state and local municipal resources,” officials said on akfireinfor.com. There has not been an evacuation order, as of Monday night, but those in the area of Montana Creek Road and Leroy Davie Road were in SET mode, which urges residents to leave immediately if necessary.
